Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
I’ve been a David Bowie fan for years; few artists have morphed music, wardrobe, hairstyle and persona as masterfully through the years, thereby leaving a mark across decades of music, fans, and well, hairstyles.
Compare Bowie’s legacy with that of Vanilla Ice (go ahead, you know you are singing it in your head…”Ice Ice Baby”), a huge hit…but his only one. He tried comeback hits, but no one was buying it.
Literally, no one was buying, all his music sounded the same.
What is the difference between those who endure and those who fall by the wayside? Adapt, modify, grow, adjust, revise, transform…all synonyms for change. The ability to change makes the difference.
In the end - things won't stay the same forever.
Even Heraclitus (c. 535 – c. 475 BC) said, "The only constant in life is change.”
This year brought a big change in my life as well. Just about the time I thought I knew what I’d be doing the rest of my working days, opportunity came knocking. I had just finished rereading The Fred Factor, by Mark Sanborn, for about the fourth time; when a friend called and mentioned a very “interesting opening” in USD 490. Recalling Principle #4 from Sanborn’s book : Reinvent yourself regularly, I accepted the challenge and came to El Dorado Public Schools.
I can’t believe how invigorating and exciting each day is. It’s the best tired I’ve been in years!
How we view, deal with, and adapt (or not) to change makes all the difference. We can:
>Try to deny it
>Stubbornly resist it
>Enthusiastically embrace it.
Wouldn't you rather accept the invitation to “Let’s Dance” rather than slipping on “Ice Ice Baby?”
