Alexa F.
Once an El Camino College student, Alexa went on to earn her BA in Creative Writing at UC Riverside and her MA in English with an emphasis in Old and Middle English Language and Literature at CSU Long Beach. She is currently taking courses at UC Irvine to obtain her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate. In addition to working at ECC, Alexa teaches English at other colleges. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, making jewelry, painting, and raising butterflies.
Anne W.
Anne is a born-and-raised New Yorker who’s been happily calling the West Coast home for half her life. She has a BA in journalism from the University of Richmond and a MAT with a focus on language and literacy from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education. By day, she’s an elementary school librarian; by night (or whenever she can find a quiet moment), she’s a freelance copywriter/ editor for brands you may have seen on grocery store shelves. She lives in Hermosa Beach with her husband and two teenagers.

April is a South Bay native and a recent graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where she studied philosophy and cognitive science. She is now working on a Master's in AI ethics and plans to obtain a PhD in philosophy. When she's not helping students or in school herself, she enjoys dance, martial arts, and music. Ashley S.
A Toro at heart (and now a Warrior!), Ashley recently graduated from CSUDH with her MA in English Literature. A poet, a storyteller, and an encourager--her passion for words never ceases! She has a love for reading and writing, and she has published over 10 works in CSUDH's "Enjambed"; she aspires to become an editor and publish a few books, maybe even a children's series. In the meantime, she enjoys watching her nephew grow, spending time with family and friends, rewatching The Office like it's the first time, and buying more books that will likely just pile up on her desk.
Athena V.
Athena will start her Ph.D. in Gender Studies at UCLA in Fall 2025. She was awarded the prestigious Eugene V. Cota-Robles fellowship. Her research interests include gender and sexuality studies, trans studies, transgender embodiment, media studies, digital rhetoric, Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x studies, queer and feminist theory, critical theory, and narrative analysis. She holds a BA in Creative Writing and MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from CSU Long Beach. When she isn't writing, researching, or teaching, you can find Athena with a book in one hand and an iced coffee in the other.

Once an El Camino College student, Ester transferred to CSU Long Beach where she received her BA in English rhetoric and composition. She has finished all her course work in the MA program and is getting prepared to take the comps exam. Ester thrives on motivating, helping, and empowering others with literacy. It has been Laura’s privilege to assist students with essays ranging from climate change to fashion design. She recently received an MA in English with emphases in Rhet/Comp and medieval literature. In addition, Laura previously obtained an MFA in creative writing from Pacific University and is a published writer. She also teaches writing and ESL at local colleges, and in her spare time enjoys family, Level C Spanish lit, and her perennial puppy.

Teresa is a Long Beach native! She attended Long Beach City College, and then transferred to California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she received her bachelor’s in English Education and her master’s in English Literature with the emphasis of Rhetoric and Composition. She started her tutoring career as a teacher’s aide working with ESL students and with students with learning disabilities at an elementary school. Teresa has watched Lord of the Rings so many times she has lost count, is trying to get back to reading and is currently reading Dracula, and loves trying new coffee shops.

Yesenia completed their Double Bachelors in English Literature and Music Composition at Mills College in 2017. They are in the process of finishing their MA in English through an online program. Yesenia plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Education, researching how English Literature is taught in higher education and how the structure can be revamped with greater access and equity for marginalized groups. They also plan to specialize in Latin American Literature. In their free time, Yesenia plays with their Chihuahua mix, Clementine, and learns new baking recipes.
