Mr. Arena has spent the first four years of his career as a fourth-grade teacher at Blue Ball Elementary School in Eastern Lancaster County School District. In 2018 he became the Elementary Makerspace facilitator. Mr. Arena was recently nominated as a Keystone Technology Innovator. His nomination resulted from his extensive use of innovative technology in the classroom. Mr. Arena was awarded a Spartan Foundation grant for a project entitled Unbounded Classroom. The Unbounded Classroom explores the potential of using cutting edge technology to remove the boundaries of the classroom without ever leaving the school building. Learners interact and experience a variety of diverse cultures and geographic locations within their own classrooms and globally, via virtual reality. These experiences engage students with their peers, with the curriculum, and with the global community. He has presented at several conferences on the use of innovative technology in the classroom including Internet2 Global Summit and the PACIE Annual Conference.
