October 2024 Newsletter
Welcome back after the half term and to our October newsletter. We had a great Autumn term 1 with so much learning taking place, with lots of visits and events. With successful residentials to Fairplay House for Year 5 and France for Year 6. We certainly packed it all in, ensuring our children had the best experiences.
Keep an eye on the events calendar we sent out for this term as well as leading up to Christmas.
We are so pleased with everyone that joins us for Open House every Friday. I hope that gives you a chance to see what's happening in our classrooms. It is always lovely when I see so many of you with your children in class.
Just a reminder that as a minimum children should have a Kaizen jumper or fleece. If you need help with this please come and talk to us. I believe that a uniform makes us feel part of something bigger as well as getting ready for Secondary School.
Our attendance across the school is looking good and during the winter months of colds and flus can be tricky, but unless your child is very ill please continue to make sure they attend school every day. It's really important they don't miss any learning, as it's all linked and really difficult to catch up with.
Stay warm!
Yours in partnership

This October, Year 2 have been working incredibly hard on topics throughout the curriculum. We have had a particular focus on handwriting too, making sure our letters are formed correctly and we're apply this in our work. We have been using concrete resources such as counters and place value charts to help solidify our learning in Maths, and in English we have revisited the story 'The Tiger who Came to Tea' which is a great read. Thank you to families who join us every Friday for Open House, especially our Diwali themed Friday.
Throughout October Year 3 have continued their settled and focused approach to learning. In Maths, we have worked on place value and have moved on to addition and subtraction. The methods we use include concrete resources such as Dienes and pictorial representations too. Don't forget to complete Doodle Maths at home too, this really helps embed those basic Maths skills.
Year 3 children who attended the Monster's Ball had a fantastic time and we look forward to many more events coming up. Remember to keep up to date with the events calendar, especially for Christmas events on the horizon.
Year 4 have jammed loads into October including the Monster's Ball and our No Outsiders workshops. Meanwhile, in class children have been working hard on their multiplication facts and continue to practice these at home. We have introduced Timestable Rock Stars, as a fun and interactive way of recalling multiplication facts. On TTRS you can compete against each other, against other staff and other classes. The children are encouraged to use TTRS at home and we're establishing methods for children to use it in school too.
Additionally, children participated in the Maths day and Maths Fair too. Increasing the profile of Maths is important and we hope you were able to join us for the fair. Looking ahead we have a trip coming up and some Christmas activities too. Keep an eye on the events calendar for more information.
