Environmental injustice/racism - One legacy of America’s racial inequality is that Black people and people of color are disproportionately affected by environmental harms, including climate change. From coast to coast, polluting facilities and landfills are more likely to be built in low-income communities and communities of color. A lack of investment in public infrastructure has created significant challenges in urban communities like Flint, MI without clean water, as well as in more rural communities like the Blackbelt without a proper waste water management system. These challenges have resulted in communities of color being disproportionately impacted by acute and chronic health issues and significantly impacting their quality of life.
