DESL Program - ERAMUS+
DESL is a curriculum development project in the field of energy efficiency and smart lighting. Smart lighting covers in addition to energy efficiency also the human needs, health, and well-being aspects of lighting applications. The project is being implemented at four universities in Vietnam and two universities in Myanmar in cooperation with three European Universities.
DESL promotes education to produce experts in the field of energy efficiency and smart lighting technologies which is in line with the needs of the labor market in the partner countries. In addition to the activities aimed to provide improved access and quality of higher education. DESL activities are also aimed at strengthening the role and relevance of higher education in development and society.
DESL belongs to the Erasmus+ program of the European Union for the action Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE).
This action aims to support the modernization of higher education in the Partner Countries to contribute to the development of sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth.
The project commenced on November 15, 2019. The project duration is 3 years.
"Smart Lighting Solutions - Foundation for Smart Homes" seminar at School of Engineering, Eastern Interational University.
In November 2023 at School of Engineering, Eastern International University, Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company (Rang Dong) and EIU have co-organized a "Smart Lighting Solutions - Foundation for Smart Homes" seminar under the Erasmus+ DESL Project for EIU students and lecturers.
At the seminar, Rang Dong experts have shared their innovative solutions applying smart lighting for smart homes, specifically on the scientific basis of the solutions, basic properties of the system, practical application of smart home solutions in daily life, Rang Dong's product system and some other innovative information about Rang Dong technology. In the meantime, EIU students and lecturers also gained more insights by the useful discussion and activities supported by Rang Dong to practice basic installation of smart home models

EIU Worked with Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company, 12/09/2023
On September 12 2023, EIU successfully organized a meeting with Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss about projects, tasks and potential cooperation activities related to Lighting and Energy in the future.
Taking this opportunity, the DESL team from Eastern International University is proud to introduce the DESL project in the field of smart lighting and energy saving as well as the project's goals.

From 28-30 August 2023, DESL members at EIU, including different lecturers from School of Engineering and EIU project manager participated in a three-day training and meeting at the Aalto University, Finland, with all the informative activities on:
Teacher training for the Smart Lighting and Lighting Technology courses and others lighting related courses at Aalto University
MC meetings with experts and professor groups about project outcomes and detailed plans for the upcoming activities

Registering for the "Smart Lighting" (ECE411) course to get the comprehensive view of the latest innovations in lighting and smart lighting systems:

Lighting Laboratory at School of Engineering, Eastern International University from Erasmus+ DESL Project
From November 2019 to November 2023, EIU participated in the Erasmus+ DESL project which is co-funded by the European Commission with the mission of enhancing the capacities of Higher Education Institutions. This EIU Lighting Lab was established in 2017 by the cooperation between Philips, Becamex IDC and Eastern International University.
EIU Lighting Lab has been operated for training and researching activities relating to the energy efficient and smart lighting. In specific, the lab is used to train the fundamental lighting and smart lighting for EIU students, lighting design for industry partners as well as research in smart lighting and its applications.
Currently, under the strong supports of DESL Project and field experts from Aalto University, Eindhoven University of Technology and The University of Ljubljana, EIU Lighting Lab is equipped with lighting equipment and teaching materials to organize two main courses: Smart Lighting and Lighting Technology.

EIU Energy Sustainable Training
EIU successfully organized two days of EIU Sustainability Training (EIU Renewable Training).
The objectives of this training course are as follows:

Sembcorp - EIU Center is a place to conduct training and research activities, contributing to provide high-quality human resources for Vietnam and the region.
The center is also a channel to promote a green, clean and sustainable ecosystem to the community, contributing to change awareness and habits of energy saving and environmental protection.

Dialux EVO Training, August 23, 2023
On August 23, 2023, EIU successfully organized Dialux Evo Training - Lighting Design Software at School of Engineering.
The main content of this training session is to contribute to introduce DIALux evo software and Its fundamental core functions for lighting desgin and stimulation. Also, step – by - step guide to do Indoor lighting design using DIALux evo software.
After this training, they became familiar with DIALux evo and understood from the creation of the project to the placing of luminaires and calculation and output.

On May 24, 2023, EIU successfully organized a workshop on "Energy efficiency in buildings on university campuses" organized by BBS and SOE according to the following information:
Workshop: "Energy Efficiency in University campus buildings"
Time and date: 9:00 - 10:30 on Wednesday, 24th May 2023

Participants: Approx 100 students UNIV111
Purpose: To share with BBS students about the situation of electricity use at EIU and energy efficiency strategies in the university. Provide information for students to perform white paper in subject UNIV111.
The main topics of the course include:
1. Explain technical figures from electricity consumption data
2. Provide e-consumption benchmarks for commercial buildings
(lighting/cooling/electrical appliances, etc.)
3. Share advanced application currently used to lower
e-consumption in commercial buildings and Energy Efficiency in university campus buildings

Introducing the "Lighting Technology" course under the DESL project
Eastern International University is running updated lighting courses in School of Engineering.
The new course "Lighting Technology" will be added and conducted to the list of topics that the students could chose from in the academic year 2022-2023.
After the course, the students are expected to gain more knowledge in lighting engineering, improve practical skills with lighting equipment and lighting design using simulation software.

EIU participated in a business trip to Netherlands under the Smart Lighting Project (DESL) from March 27 to March 29, 2023
From March 27 to March 29, 2023, EIU participated in a business trip to Netherlands under the Smart Lighting Project (DESL).
The purposes of this business trip are as follow:
Participating in the training for the Lighting Technology subject (ECE 411) and Smart Lighting subject (ECE 430) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Netherlands;
Participate in meetings with expert groups about project results and upcoming plans;
Participate in attending classes at 2 TU/e classes;
Tour the lighting lab at TU/e and Signify's Application Center, formerly a Philip company.
Introducing DESL project at the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Technology & Sustainable Development - 2022 (ICATSD 2022)
Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City and Eastern International Univeristy co-organized the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Technology & Sustainable Development – 2022 (ICATSD 2022) on November 24-26, 2022. The conference consists of 5 multi-disciplinary symposiums such as Computational Intelligence and Innovative Applications, Symposium on Precision Machining and Advanced Technologies, International Symposium for Green Solutions, International Symposium on Sustainable Development in Transition Economies 2022 and Innovations and sustainable development in social sciences and humanities.
The participants of Conference consisted of more than 800 scientists, lecturers from 20 different countries and territories including: Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Vietnam etc,.

Introducing DESL project at the Eastern International University Scientific Research Conference - EIUSRC 2022 on December 14, 2022.
EIU successfully organized the Eastern International University Scientific Research Conference - EIUSRC 2022. The conference was attended by more than 200 researchers, lecturers, and students from EIU and other universities such as the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Burapha University, Rambha Barni Rajabhat University, etc., especially the participation of over 70 authors with 33 research works from many different fields. The main content of the conference is presented in the form of scientific reports around four symposium sessions: Economics & Business Management, Engineering, Information Technology, and Health Science.
At the Conference, DESL team from Eastern International University proudly presented a poster introducing DESL project in the field of energy efficiency and smart lighting and its objectives for strengthening the role and relevance of higher education in development and society to other experts, researchers, and developers.

Workshop "Effective Energy Use and Smart Lighting" on July 19, 2022
On July 19, 2022, EIU successfully organized the seminar "Effective energy use and smart lighting". The workshop is part of the project "Developing Energy Efficient and Smart Lighting Education in Vietnam & Myanmar (DESL)", which is a project to modernize the curriculum by developing new and innovative courses and methodologies in the field of energy-efficient and smart lighting.
Organizing and participating in this workshop is not only an opportunity for lecturers and students to update useful knowledge but also an opportunity for them to exchange and share experiences on the topic of effective energy use from experts from prestigious domestic and international universities.

EIU participates in the DESL Project Workshop in Slovenia from June 6 to 9, 2022
Within the framework of the DESL Project, the workshop held in Slovenia from June 6 to 9, 2022 was an initial event for all project members to report on progress, results achieved and plans for the next 6 months of project as well as participate in training to receive instructions on how to use lighting laboratory equipment.
At this workshop, EIU also presented some of the following contents:
1. Two subjects designed within the framework of DESL project: Lighting Technology (ECE 430), Smart Lighting (ECE 411);
2. Two courses of the DESL project will be offered in the summer quarter;
3. EIU will post information about subjects on the school's website;
4. EIU will post more project information on the school's website;
5. Plans to organize a conference in July within the framework of the DESL project.
6. EIU presented the poster registration plan of the DESL project during the ICATSD international conference 2022 takes place in November and EIU's School-level Scientific Conference in December.

Course Development Workshop - DESL Project, 15-16 June 2020
Day 1: 15/06/2020 . Time: 2.00 pm- 5.00 pm
Day 2: 16/06/2020 . Time: 1.00 pm - 4.30 pm
On the 15th and 16th of June 2020, the University of Technology Eindhoven (TU/e) – responsible for work package 2 – organized the course development workshop. The aim of the workshop was to identify and structure the lighting courses to be developed at the partner universities in Vietnam and Myanmar.
There were parallel sessions per institute (Ho Chi Minh University of Technology, Truong Dai Hoc Thu Dau Mot, Eastern International University, Vietnamese German University, Mandalay Technological University, and Yangon Technological University) chaired by a European partner (Aalto University, Univerza v Ljubljani, or Technische Universiteit Eindhoven). The parallel sessions consisted of in-depth brainstorm sessions in which the order, learning objectives, course content and number of study hours of the lighting courses to be developed were discussed. At the end of the meeting, next steps within work package 2 were demonstrated.

Kick-off meeting of DESL project in Yangon, Myanmar from 16-17/1/2020
In the framework of DESL Project, a kick-off meeting was organized at Yangon Technological University, Myanmar from 16-17 January 2020 as the initial event for all project members to get to know each other as well as discussing the project organization and management methods.
An Needs Assessment Preparation Workshop was also added to the working schedule to review existing courses and development plan at partner universities in order to prepare for finalizing courses on smart lighting to be implemented at Vietnamese and Myanmar universities during the project lifetime.
