FAQ

What are some of the potential consequences of not being aware of student privacy protections when using a digital tool?

Use of a digital tool that has not been vetted presents the opportunity for student data to be inappropriately exposed, shared, or in some cases sold.

Many online applications say “Sign In with Google.” Aren’t those OK to use since our students have EGUSD Google accounts?

No, these applications also need to be vetted. Using a EGUSD Google Login does not ensure that the data remains in the EGUSD Google Domain.

What kinds of resources do I need to get approval for?

Any free or fee-based online learning resource that a student interacts with needs to be approved.

What should teachers/staff do if they are currently using software that they downloaded for free and didn't realize that they are required to check that it complies with AB 1584?

In all cases, teachers/staff must follow the EGUSD Approval Process.

How do I know if a resource for purchase has already be approved to be used?

Check the EGUSD California AB 1584 Compliance Review Rider/List.

Once I submit my Student Data Privacy Compliance Review Form for Online Learning Resources Form how long will it take before I hear something?

Please allow up to four weeks for this process - as in some cases vendors will need to sign and submit an agreement with EGUSD if language is not already included in their contract.
