Students will work as a team to accomplish a task while managing group dynamics and conflict.
SET UP:
Index card for each student or cut-up scratch paper
Pen or pencil
This slide deck provides step-by-step directions to be displayed for students
STEPS:
Group students and provide the number of note cards that are equal to the number of students in the group.
Example: 5 students, 5 note cards
Have the students number their cards from 1 to the max number of cards.
Example: Number each card 1-5 if there are 5 students
3. Students individually come up with a common phrase or slogan and instruct them to not share their idea with anyone. Students write the phrase/slogan on the top of the index card.
4. Students pass their stack to the left. Now that they have a new stack, have them look at the phrase/slogan that was written on card #1. Students should read the phrase/slogan and consider an image to match the phrase/slogan.
5. Instruct students to move card #1 to the back of the stack. They should now be looking at card #2, which is blank.
6. On card #2, students draw a picture of the phrase/slogan that was on card #1, which was just moved to the back of the stack.
7. Have students pass their stack to the left, look at the picture drawn on card #2, and then move that card to the back of the stack.
8. Instruct students to look at the blank top card #3 and have them write what phrase/slogan that they think was illustrated.
9. Repeat the previous steps (pass, look at the top picture/phrase, move it to the back, draw or write) until your original stack of cards has been returned to you.
10. Have each group member share their stack of cards in order.
