Next, please watch Jack Hartman’s letter I song. You will notice that since the letter I is a vowel, just like E, has two sounds. One sounds like “i” and the other is “i”, as in “icicle”, and “island”. Don’t worry too much about the students learning the second sound, they will learn that more as they progress through KG2 and Grade 1.

Melon class - Wednesday, April 1Good morning everyone! Thank you to those families who have arranged video conferences with me so far this week. It has been so nice to see all the children and touch base to see how everything is going at home. If you have not done so already, please download the ‘zoom’ application on your phone and create an account. I will be creating small group meetings next week on this app, so downloading it ahead of time will be great!
Let’s start today with Splash Learning. So far, about half the class has been able to log on and complete the assignments. Remember, this website tracks your progress and I am able to see who has and has not completed and how they did, so please focus on getting this one assignment done each day. It should only take about 10-15minutes. Only do the assignments under the “my to-do” section. Some of you will have more than others as some people are all caught up. Today’s task is called “Count in Different Arrangements”

Individual Student Passwords are in your messages, watch the capitals!
Today, we will NOT go ahead with a new letter. Instead, we will be reviewing the names and sounds of the letters we have learned so far. There are many activities you can do to review the letters from A-J. Here are some ideas:
Sorting: Collect some objects around the house that begin with the sounds A-J, and have the students sort into plastic cups labelled with those letters
Mystery Letter: Put three objects in a bag that begin with the SAME letter, such as “apple”, “alligator”, and “airplane”, and have the students pull the objects out and guess the mystery letter (in this case, the mystery letter is the letter A)
Up/Down: Say Two words, students stand up if they begin with the same sound, and they sit down if they do not. For example, “cat” and “ball” (sit down), “apple” and “airplane” (stand up)
Drill Practise: Cut up small pieces of paper and write one letter on each. Show the cards to the children and they practise the sounds and try to memorize as many of the sounds as they can.

Melon Class - Thursday, April 2Good morning everyone! We made it to the end of our second full week of e-learning! Congratulations and well done! I firstly want to say a BIG thank you to all the families (moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and nannies) for taking the time to click LIKE, to work with your child, to discovering new technology (such as booki, splash learning and zoom), and to send me pictures. I made quite a few phone calls and sent a few messages to some families who haven’t completed a couple of tasks. However, many of the families are keeping up with all the work. Thank you for all that you do. Please check that the following tasks have been completed:
