Tango Shelter

It is getting cold. But Tangueros and Tangueras have warm embraces. So let's help The Westminster Night Shelter Project though Tango Shelter.

So on Saturday 8th December 2018 we celebrate a charity milonga in Mayfair at the elegant Farm Street Church Hall across the road from The Connaught Hotel in aid of the Farm Street Winter Night Shelter Project.

The hall where the Milonga will be held is transformed into a Monday Night dining room and then a dormitory for the homeless as part of the Westminster Night Shelter Project for people who would otherwise have spent the night on the streets of London.

Meals are supplied by local hotels and restaurants including Claridge's.

The charity buys inflatable beds, sleeping bags and pillows. These are allocated to each guest and stored in the hall after the dormitory is dismantled. Breakfast is supplied in the morning.

So let us Tangueros turn our warm embraces into a warm place to stay for London's cold and shivering homeless and help fund the Farm Street Winter Night Shelter Project.

More info on the West London Day Centre and the Westminster Night Shelter Project.

All the DJs, musicians and performers will be providing their services free without expenses. So also will the organisers and support staff.

In order of appearance:

The DJs

Main Hall DJ1

Zhanna Rabinska Traditional Golden Age Tango DJ

Professional musician Zhanna Rabinska is well known by fans of tango music as she runs the popular "Today's Tango is" Facebook group. Her dancing is known for its musicality and knowledge of the music is evident. She will play a set of Traditional GA Tango music.

Second Room DJ

David James Bailey Nuevo & Alternative DJ

David and Ann run the Learning Tango school in Hertfordshire. David has DJ-ed for several years, at the Milonga Abierta events and others throughout the UK. David will play a selection of the most danceable Nuevo, Alternative and Blues tango music in the second room, so giving you a choice of dance rooms and genres throughout the evening.

Main Hall DJ2

Warren Edwardes Organiser and Traditional Romantic Tango DJ

Silky smooth traditional tangos blending energetic 40s Golden Age with romantic 50s Silk Age plus a few 30s valses, big 60s tangos and contemporary-traditional tangos. There'll be a slick tsunami alternating rhythmical and lyrical tangos from simple to complex with a tilt to lyrical romanticism.

The Performers

Just back to London from his native Argentina Guillermo Willis will deliver a smoking solo tanda on the Bandoneón for Tango Shelter 2018.

Feel free to sit and cry; just dance; or even dance and cry. I'll be doing the latter and carrying two freshly ironed handkerchiefs for two sets of tears.

Opera Singer and Tanguera Carlotta Missiroli will "cross over" for Tango Shelter 2018 to sing songs with the orchestral music supplied by Orquesta Romantica Milonguera.

Olga Metzner of Tango BETTER and Onur Gümrükçü met in 2014 and really enjoyed dancing together. In summer 2018 they decided to work as a couple, based in London, Hamburg and Istanbul.

They focus on deep connection within the couple, elegance of the movement, joy of dancing and endless opportunities to grow in their tango.
