School overview
Unawatuna Maha Vidyalaya is major government public school in Unawatuna. The school has more more than 125 years history. Many notable persons in Sri Lanka has been educated in here.
This school was established on 7 September 1887 in a temporary coconut shed in Sandra's estate, Unawatuna, with 14 students and 4 teachers.
On 15 March 1962, Unawatuna Maha Vidyalaya became a government school.[3] The school was renovated with the help of the Senehasa Foundation, which built new classrooms, computer labs and sanitary facilities to help children affected by the tsunami on 26 December 2004.
