The Giving Tree: A Retelling of a Traditional Métis Story
The Giving Tree: A Retelling of a Traditional Métis Story
The final selection being shared for Indigenous Storytelling Month is Leah Dorion’s The Giving Tree: A Retelling of a Traditional Métis Story read aloud by Mr. Ogilvie and Mr. Derdall. This story shares the values of kindness, generosity, and helpfulness.
Leah Dorian is an interdisciplinary Métis artist from Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Her artwork is featured in the University of Alberta’s Massive Open Online Course, Indigenous Canada. You may have taken part in this course or be familiar with it as it gained a lot of attention at the end of 2020 when Dan Levy signed up and invited Canadians to join him on a learning journey towards reconciliation.
The top version is read aloud with the English and Michif text visible. The bottom version is interpreted in American Sign Language.
Enjoy!
