  • We decided on the choices for our Wax Museum tableau. We will present these on Dec. 18 in the afternoon
  • We are adding sound effects to a beat in Fine Arts
  • We are learning about how the Earth moves - rotation and revolution. We also found out what emits and gives off light.

  • We are making a new mural for our front hallway, using wet felting techniques
  • We played floor hockey in Phys .Ed. We are developing our skills to be used soon in full games.
  • Mixed and improper fractions (grade . 6's) and we learned how to compare fractions to determine which was bigger (Grade 5's)
  • Fine arts, we picked songs that remind us of certain emotions and looked closely at the lyrics
  • We started Sky Science and created a chart that showed what we know and what we want to learn
  • We met with our buddies and helped them with Google Slides
  • We finished up our persuasive writing for an Indigenous artifact in Social studies
  • We saw the Earth Rangers and met some cool animals such as Monitor Lizard named Blue.

Ask Me About...

  • We performed Sadako and the Thousand Cranes for Remembrance Day
  • We wrote the paragraph to advertise the Indigenous artifact we chose
  • We are trying to finish our wetland food chains
  • We are making Save the Wetland posters, using charts and graphs as well as other non-fiction text features to share our reasons why wetlands are important
  • We did the Submarine sandwich problem. It is about comparing fractions. We have 3 strategies for comparing the size of fractions:
    1. same denominator - more pieces = larger fraction
    2. same numerator - larger denominator = smaller pieces so less
    3. other fractions - we looked at which fraction was closer to the whole, to half or to zero to help us decide which fraction is bigger.
  • We also played some computer fraction games to help us practice our skills with fractions. They are on the links page of this blog, if you'd like to continue to practice at home.
  • We learned about 2 stage, 3 stage, and 4 stage life cycles. We used a Venn Diagram to compare 3 and 4 stage life cycles. Plants have two stage life cycles. Three stage life cycles have eggs, babies that grow larger to adults. Four stage life cycles involve metamorphosis which means a change in form.
  • We are reading about Sky Science in Readworks.
  • We made a card for Hayley using poetry and similes.

  • Non-fiction text features - interesting ways to show information. We are using these on our wetland murals to share adaptations and interactions.
  • We practiced our skills with fractions and decimal equivalents through some online computer games. We played Race to 1 which helped us practice putting decimal numbers on a number line. We also learned ways to compare decimals.
  • We are exploring ways Indigenous people connect to the land. We learned that the Northwest Coast People's creator stories involved a Raven and we learned strategies the Subarctic People used to catch moose. We have chosen an artifact that we are going to advertise through writing an advertisement/catalogue description.

  • Ms. El finished the book, The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise. It was an interesting book with a lot of hooks, interesting vocabulary, and great description. it is a story "you'll want to listen to!"
  • We practiced our Remembrance Day play - :Sadako and the Thousand Cranes:
  • Mrs. Austman read us "The Fly" - it's a non-fiction text that is interesting because of the techniques the author used - like humour!
  • We made our crests with felting
  • We played a decimal and fraction game and we used visuals to help us learn more about them
  • We learned how to play "How Close to 100 and "Cover the Field - they are multiplication fact games
  • We are making wetland food chains. We should know what producers, consumers and decomposers are.
  • We weighed and carried the bags for our Kidney foundation donations.
  • We had picture retakes.
  • We reflected on what we know about Indigenous identity and started to learn about different First Nations groups.
