Gordana Mirchikj is the EducationUSA Regional Manager (REAC) for Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe. She is based in Vienna, Austria, and covers 21 countries in the region. Gordana works with 70 EducationUSA advisers in 50 advising centers on their training and professional development. She promotes U.S. colleges and universities to international audiences and develops strategies to advance collaboration with the U.S. higher education community. Originally from North Macedonia, she joined EducationUSA in 2017. Prior to joining EdUSA she developed a semester exchange program for international students for ISEP in Washington, DC. Gordana also worked in international development for USAID and Open Society Foundations in North Macedonia. She was an EducationUSA adviser in her home country for more than five years. She holds a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) from Indiana University Bloomington where she studied as a Fulbright student, and a BA in English Language and Literature from Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, North Macedonia.

Charles Hornstra is based in The Hague, Netherlands on behalf of EducationUSA as the Regional Manager (REAC) for Western and Northern Europe. Charles plays a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination and management of 42 EducationUSA advising centers across 24 countries. Charles boasts a wealth of experience collaborating with the U.S. higher education community, focusing on international student mobility trends, institutional partnerships and linkages, innovative regional recruitment strategies, and the creation of impactful engagement opportunities. At the heart of his endeavors is close collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassies/Consulates within his portfolio. Charles is dedicated to promoting and advancing the U.S. higher education sector—leveraging international education as a $50B top-ten U.S. service export and promoting its economic and societal contributions to advance U.S. soft power diplomacy, influence, and global engagement—while fostering meaningful connections that transcend borders. With a seasoned career in educational diplomacy spanning over a decade, Charles Hornstra is also a proud United States Fulbright alumnus and graduate of Rutgers University. Previous professional postings include Thailand, Malaysia, and New York in the United States.

In Europe and Eurasia, EducationUSA centers are located at Fulbright Commissions, local nongovernmental organizations, universities and high schools, American Councils for International Education offices, binational centers, U.S. embassies and consulates, and American Spaces. EducationUSA offers advising programs in 45 countries and territories in the region and is staffed by 123 advisers across the region.

The Fulbright Commission and EducationUSA Portugal invite U.S. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to participate in Futurália 2026, Portugal’s largest education fair, held March 11–14, 2026, in Lisbon. With over 66,000 attendees, this four-day event is a perfect opportunity to connect with prospective undergraduate and graduate students and network with institutions from around the world.
Each participating U.S. HEI will receive a table within a shared EducationUSA booth. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration fee: $800 (includes up to 2 representatives)
*An administrative processing fee will be applied to all EducationUSA Fair registrations made through the Fair Portal.
