Gordana Mirchikj is the EducationUSA Regional Manager (REAC) for Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe. She is based in Vienna, Austria, and covers 21 countries in the region. Gordana works with 70 EducationUSA advisers in 50 advising centers on their training and professional development. She promotes U.S. colleges and universities to international audiences and develops strategies to advance collaboration with the U.S. higher education community. Originally from North Macedonia, she joined EducationUSA in 2017. Prior to joining EdUSA she developed a semester exchange program for international students for ISEP in Washington, DC. Gordana also worked in international development for USAID and Open Society Foundations in North Macedonia. She was an EducationUSA adviser in her home country for more than five years. She holds a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) from Indiana University Bloomington where she studied as a Fulbright student, and a BA in English Language and Literature from Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, North Macedonia.

Charles Hornstra is based in The Hague, Netherlands on behalf of EducationUSA as the Regional Manager (REAC) for Western and Northern Europe. Charles plays a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination and management of 42 EducationUSA advising centers across 24 countries. Charles boasts a wealth of experience collaborating with the U.S. higher education community, focusing on international student mobility trends, institutional partnerships and linkages, innovative regional recruitment strategies, and the creation of impactful engagement opportunities. At the heart of his endeavors is close collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassies/Consulates within his portfolio. Charles is dedicated to promoting and advancing the U.S. higher education sector—leveraging international education as a $50B top-ten U.S. service export and promoting its economic and societal contributions to advance U.S. soft power diplomacy, influence, and global engagement—while fostering meaningful connections that transcend borders. With a seasoned career in educational diplomacy spanning over a decade, Charles Hornstra is also a proud United States Fulbright alumnus and graduate of Rutgers University. Previous professional postings include Thailand, Malaysia, and New York in the United States.

In Europe and Eurasia, EducationUSA centers are located at Fulbright Commissions, local nongovernmental organizations, universities and high schools, American Councils for International Education offices, binational centers, U.S. embassies and consulates, and American Spaces. EducationUSA offers advising programs in 45 countries and territories in the region and is staffed by 123 advisers across the region.

Last year, we organized a series of virtual university mini fair as part of the EducationUSA Competitive College ClubAnkara-İzmir, bringing together U.S. university representatives and highly motivated Turkish high school students interested in studying in the United States. The sessions were very well received by both students and universities.
More than 50 university representatives participated and had the opportunity to introduce their institutions directly to students. A large portion of our CCC students later applied to universities that took part in these sessions, making the initiative both meaningful and impactful.
This year, we are expanding the program to Turkiye and welcoming new universities as well as returning partners to meet with students from across Türkiye.

According to the conference organizers, the NAGAP Annual Conference - the Graduate Enrollment Management Summit - brings over 800 GEM professionals together under one roof to gain insight and knowledge from peers and experts in the field. The GEM Summit features dynamic speakers and provides numerous opportunities to learn new approaches, receive updated information on all aspects of graduate enrollment management, share useful tips, exchange creative ideas, and connect with fellow NAGAP members. EducationUSA will host a booth at NAGAP 2026 with a small team of advisers representing multiple world regions.

The EducationUSA Europe team will host an EducationUSA Europe and Eurasia Regional Briefing and Networking Reception at EAIE 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, on September 8, 2026, from approximately 11:00 am - 2:00 pm CET (local venue still TBD). This complimentary event is open to all U.S. higher education institutions already attending EAIE 2026 that are interested to learn more about the current U.S.–Europe partnership landscape along with potential opportunities for engagement. Please note that space for the Regional Briefing is limited, therefore we are currently collecting expressions of interest.
While final event details for the Regional Briefing are still being prepared, we invite you to complete the expression of interest form to indicate your interest in attending.
Institutions that submit an expression of interest will receive an email notification when invitations are released. Invitations will be extended on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to capacity. For any questions, please contact EUR@educationusa.org.
The U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA network formally invites representatives of U.S. higher education institutions to participate in the EducationUSA Europe & Eurasia (EUR) Regional Forum, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from September 15–17, 2026.
EducationUSA Regional Forums provide valuable opportunities for U.S. higher education representatives to engage with EducationUSA professionals and discuss strategies to strengthen the recruitment and retention of international students on U.S. campuses. Participants will attend panels and sessions on a wide range of topics, led by higher education professionals, EducationUSA staff from across the region, and key stakeholders.
Registration for the EUR Regional Forum will open in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we encourage colleagues to save the date! For any questions, please contact EUR@educationusa.org. We hope to see you in Europe in September!
Directly following the EUR Regional Forum, the EducationUSA Western & Central Europe Fair Tour Fall 2026 will take place from September 19–29, with planned stops in Prague (Czech Republic), Utrecht (Netherlands), Luxembourg City (Luxembourg), Brussels (Belgium), London (United Kingdom), and Madrid and Barcelona (Spain).
Registration for USA College Day London (Sept 25/26) WILL OPEN on April 15 via a separate registration platform managed by the center.
Registration for the additional EducationUSA fair locations WILL OPEN on April 15 at 12pm Eastern Time via the EducationUSA Fair Portal (educationusafairs.org).
Accredited U.S. higher education institutions are strongly encouraged to participate in all fair locations, which strategically follow the EUR Regional Forum to maximize outreach and engagement across Western and Central Europe. This year, we are pleased to introduce a new stop in Barcelona, Spain—an emerging market with significant potential for student recruitment. Registration will remain open through August 31, 2026, or until capacity is reached, whichever occurs first.
Fair Tour Registration Additional Details:
- Registration will be open from April 15 through August 31, 2026 via the EducationUSA Fair Portal.
- Registration includes up to two representatives per table. A second official representative or alumnus/alumna may attend at no additional cost; no more than two participants are permitted. Please provide participant names during registration or as soon as they are confirmed. Space availability may vary by event.
- The EducationUSA Fair Portal includes detailed information and registration options for each fair location, except London.
- Registration for the London (United Kingdom) fair will be handled on a separate registration platform with a slightly different timeline. Institutions interested in the London stop must register via the designated UK registration site.
- Registration will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Each city has a designated capacity for the number of representatives it can accommodate. If the number of registrants from higher education institutions (HEIs) exceeds a city’s capacity, additional HEIs will be placed on a waitlist for that location.

EducationUSA advisers in the EUR region collaborate as a team to deliver virtual programs for students, taking the lead on topic selection and scheduling to meet their programming needs. We created a Google form for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to indicate their interest and areas of expertise, helping advisers identify suitable guest speakers.
