Success Criteria
I can identify the amplitude and wavelength of a displacement-distance graph
I can identify the amplitude, period and frequency of a displacement-time graph
I am able to rearrange the wave equation to solve problems involving the speed, frequency and wavelength of a wave
Fun fact:
For visible light, its wavelength ranges from 400 to 700 nanometres and has a frequency range of around 400THz to 800THz.
400nm is 0.0000004 metres!
400THz is 400 trillion times per second (400,000,000,000,000 times per second)
Key terms
Amplitude the maximum displacement of a particle from the average or rest position
Wavelength the distance between any two successive points in phase. (e.g. the distance between crests)
Period the time it takes for any point on the wave to through one complete cycle. (e.g. crest to successive crest)
Frequency the number of complete cycles that pass a given point per second
Wave speed the speed a wave transfers its energy through a medium
