Roles

There are 43 roles for each night of the production.

The 5 main roles will be shared. These roles have lots of lines and lots of songs. Two people need to learn each of these roles, in case someone is unable to perform one night.

The 3 supporting roles will solo singing will also be shared. Two people need to learn each these roles, in case someone is unable to perform one night.

The 12 supporting characters with no solo singing will not be shared, and the same performer will fill both roles on each night of the production.

The 24 supporting characters with a few lines will not be shared roles, and the same performer will fill both roles on each night of the production.

The roles that are not shared will be filled by main cast characters from either night if someone is unable to perform one night.

This means there are a total of 52 ROLES available in this year's production. Boys or girls can fill any role.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Toad

A loud, silly Toad who has too much money and wants to buy everything. Buys a caravan, and then goes car crazy. Steals a car, gets arrested and goes to jail, breaks out and then tries to take back his mansion.

We are after someone who can act silly, loud and funny, and doesn't mind making a fool of themselves.

There will be a different Toad each night of the production.

Ratty

A fun, cheerful Rat who likes to play about and have fun. Plays in boats with Mole, goes on a trip with Mole and Toad, tries to convince Toad to not get a car, and then helps take back Toad's mansion.

We are after someone who can act loud, confident and cheerful.

There will be a different Rat each night of the production.

Mole

A soft spoken mole, who is confident but gentle. Likes to clean, and doesn't like to mess around. Plays in boats with Rat, gets lost in the Wild Woods, Sings about how lovely home is, goes on a trip with Rat and Toad, tries to convince Toad to not get a car, and then helps take back Toad's mansion.

We are after someone who can act a bit shy, curious, and wanting adventure.

There will be a different Mole each night of the production.

Badger

A mature, sensible Badger, who doesn't put up with tomfoolery. Helps Rat and Mole after they lost in the Wild Woods. Tries to convince Toad that he should not get a car, then helps take back Toad's mansion.

We are after someone who can act bossy, 'proper', and old.

There will be a different Badger each night of the production.

Narrator

A person (or a two people) who help tell the story.

We are after someone who can read clearly, and isn't afraid to make some things up on the spot.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS - SOLO SINGING

Sally

The jailer's daughter. Likes Toad, and wants to help Toad escape prison.

We are after someone who can act very friendly, can make people smile, and maybe even make the parents sing.

We would like a different Sally each night of the production.

Chairman

The boss of the court. In charge of sentencing Toad to prison.

Clerk

A worker at the court. Helps the Chairman sentence Mr Toad.

Boss of the Special Forces Stoats. Sings a song with the Special Armed Stoats. Wants to take over Toad Hall, so they can have parties there all the time.
