What is Sound?

Download and install Audacity from this link.

With a microphone attached to your computer (webcam microphone is fine),  record sounds from 5 different objects in your home (use the red circle button to start a recording).

Take a screenshot of each recording an upload them into a copy of this document.

Write down any observations you can make about the different sounds (hint, think about frequency, amplitude etc).

Sound can be recorded by both analog and digital methods. We will be looking at this in detail next lesson, but for this activity your task is to research:

1. 3 different analog mediums that can store sound.

2. 3 different file types that can be used to store sound digitally.

For each of these, state an advantage to storing sound in this way. Add this to your table in the Google Doc (same Doc as in Activity 1).
