In this activity you will gather data of a falling ball from video analysis software and then analyse it using a spreadsheet to estimate the acceleration
Watch the video Balltossout.mov and then upload it to Tracker. Set the axis. We will only be investigating the vertical component so the y-axis can be anywhere. Try to set the origin to start as the ball leaves the guy’s hand. Set the calibration stick in the metre stick.
Track the ball manually. Use the zoom to get it on the same spot each time. Then cut and paste your data into your spreadsheet (only the vertical data).
Was cm a good choice for the distance unit? How could it be changed?
Data analysis:
Set up your table to find the mid pt of the time intervals and the velocity from the data.
What formulas would you use???
A measurement without knowing the error is useless. Include error/uncertainty into the data.
Plot the Velocity vs time graph
How can you use this graph to estimate the acceleration of the object?
Follow the Videos Here for how to analyse and add
error to your experiment.
