Construction: Paper mâché farm animal character

Learning Intention: We are constructing a farm animal character. We are learning to make an armature. We are learning how to paper mâché.

Success criteria: I can make a armature in the shape of a farm animal character. I can use paper learning to make an armature. We are learning how to paper mâché to cover the armature. I can paint my farm animal character.

Grade 1

Construction: Imaginative building using boxes

Learning Intention: We are constructing an imaginative model of a building as inspired by architects from around the world.

Success criteria: I can create a model of an imaginative building and cover it with unique textures, windows, an entrance and other building features.

Grade 2

Collage: Favourite foods

Learning Intention: We are using collage techniques to create a collage picture of food. We are improving our skills in cutting shapes with scissors. We are learning to use effective glueing techniques.

Success criteria: I can create a collage of food so that it has balance, texture and variety. I can include some 3D elements to my artwork.

Grade 3

Collage: Space invader mosaics

Learning Intention: We are exploring the artist known as 'Invader' by finding out what he does as an artist. We are exploring how Invader uses colour in his art, how he uses only squares to make his characters. We are exploring the term mosaics.

Success criteria: I can create my own space invader-like art using paper mosaics. I can use contrasting colours to ensure my space invader character stands out.



Grade 4

Drawing: Using the art elements of line, pattern and colour

Learning Intention: To learn about the artist Romero Britto and why his work is used in so much pop art. To learn how the art elements of line, pattern and colour are used in Britto's work.

Success criteria: I have completed a character drawing in the style of Romero Britto.

Grade 5

Drawing: 'Dia De Los Muertos' scratch skulls

Learning Intention: We are learning about the cultural celebration known as 'day of the dead' or 'Dia De Los Muertos'.

Success criteria: I have used my drawn skull design plan to complete my scratch skull with some symmetrical elements and neatly designed patterns using a scratching tool.

Grade 6

Drawing & painting: Graduation flower design & one point perspective watercolour landscape

Learning Intention:

Graduation Flower: We are painting our graduation flower designs to include:

  • contrast between the centre and petals

  • Name and year in the centre

  • Uniquely designed with personal interest


One point perspective watercolour landscape: We are using our understanding of One Point Perspective to draw a picture of a landscape so that it 'looks' 3-dimensional and have realistic elements.

Success criteria:

Graduation Flower: I have followed my unique design plan to paint my graduation flower using my best efforts. This will be glued to the external art room wall as a permanent art installation.

One point perspective watercolour landscape: My landscape painting will include:

  • Images that recede (get smaller) such as a road, trees, buildings into a vanishing point.

  • Buildings with windows and other details

  • Outlining of my work with black marker

  • My unique details such as signs, car, people, etc

  • Colour using watercolour paint.
