10A: Adaptations for Arid environments
Outcome:
By the end of the lesson you will be able to identify the structural, physiological and behavioural adaptations the enhance an organism's survival and enable life to exist in a wide range of environments

Explain
Adaptations Research Task
In this task you will choose two animals or plants, one from an arid environment and one from a cold environment. Then research the environment they live in and the adaptations they have evolved to survive in this environment.
You will present your research as a poster (either electronically or hardcopy on poster paper).
Your poster must include for each organism:
A description of your animal or plant
A description of the environment it lives in
The structural adaptations of your organism
The behaviour adaptations of your organism
The physiological adaptations of your organism
The trade-offs associated with the adaptations and how they impact the orgainsms survival and reproduction
The tolerance range of your organism in its environment
The role that genetic diversity plays in the the development and success of the adapatations within the organism
The potential impacts of anthropogenic climate change on your organism, proposing potential adaptations that could help the organism manage the change
Finally, compare and contrast the adaptations between the two species, while considering their role within their own ecosystem.
