Mathematical Investigations
Duration One Semester
Brief Description:
This semester-length course will provide optional, additional content that enable students to discover mathematical ideas and invent mathematical procedures. Such an inquiry-based learning allows students to develop their problem-solving capabilities, critical thinking and communication skills that are vital to VCE studies and modern workplaces. In addition, the contents of this elective complements and extends the Maths curriculum and provides exceptional foundation that is essential for undertaking VCE Maths.
The activities students will undertake are:
Problem-solving investigations where a mathematical problem is presented, possible solutions are considered, and a viable solution with mathematical evidence is presented
Mathematical explorations where a starting point for exploring an interesting idea is given. Students will probe this idea and make inferences.
