Mathematics plays a critical role in our attempts at understanding the world, whether in everyday matters such as driving, cooking or jobs such as Accounting, Finance, Banking and Engineering. It provides an effective way of building analytical thinking, logical reasoning and mental rigor. In addition, mathematical expertise plays a crucial role in understanding other branches of knowledge such as Science, Social Studies, and even Music and Art.

The curriculum is organised by the six strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space , Statistics & Probability. The proficiency strands Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning are an integral part of Mathematics content across the three content strands.

Goal

• To enjoy Mathematics and develop curiosity as well as an appreciation of its elegance and power

• To develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to pursue further studies in mathematics

• To apply and transfer skills to a wide range of situations including real life, other areas of knowledge and future developments

• To provide the opportunity for attainment of mastery of associated skills

• To develop logical, critical and creative thinking, patience and persistence in problem solving
