Dear Wyong Public School Community,

It's been a busy few weeks at our school, filled with exciting activities and learning opportunities for our students. I'd like to take a moment to express my gratitude and share some important updates.

I want to thank our dedicated teachers for their excellent organisation and our students for their exemplary behaviour during our recent activities. The road safety sessions, mini-museum exhibition, Stage 1 excursion to Hunter Valley Zoo, and Stage 3 Art House excursion have all been tremendous successes. Your participation and conduct have made these events truly memorable and valuable.

Looking ahead, we're excited to see our Year 5 students step up over the coming weeks as they put forward their nominations for student leadership roles. This is an excellent opportunity for personal growth and contribution to our school community. We're also looking forward to our Jersey Day fundraiser next Friday. Remember to wear your footy team colours and bring a gold coin donation. Let's show our team spirit while supporting a great cause!

I'm pleased to announce that we're introducing a new look for our Semester 2 reports to make them more user-friendly and informative. The new format will include English, Mathematics, and General comments, while other Key Learning Areas (KLAs) will have achievement boxes against learning outcomes. We'll continue using our assessment scale of Limited, Basic, Sound, High, and Outstanding, and introduce a new effort scale (1-5). Kindergarten reports will only include effort (no assessment scale), and our support classes will have a personalised assessment scale and comments relating to their individual goals.

On a different note, I'd like to address an important issue that has come to our attention. Our Life Skills Go check-ins have revealed that many students are feeling tired and not quite ready to learn when they arrive at school. Some teachers have reported students disclosing that they wake up during the night to use devices. We kindly request your support in ensuring our children get a good night's sleep. Please help us communicate the importance of a digital detox at night. Adequate sleep is crucial for learning, emotional well-being, and overall health.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can ensure the best outcomes for all our students at Wyong Public School.

Warm regards,

Mitchell Welham
Principal, Wyong Public School

Update on Student Email Use

To ensure our students’ email accounts are used for educational purposes and to help protect their online safety, the NSW DoE will be limiting the use of school email addresses for activities like social media, gaming, and messaging.

If your child is using their school email for these platforms, they will need to update their accounts with a personal email address or mobile number by the start of Term 4.

Thank you for your support in helping keep our students safe online!
