Education Week:
This year’s theme is ‘Lifelong learners’ and celebrates education as a lifelong journey from before a child enters an early childhood setting, progressing to primary and secondary school, and continuing their learning journey into adulthood.
Continuous learning is critical for success throughout life and everyone can be a lifelong learner.
Here are some moments from our learning journey this year:
Students in Stage One have been developing their phonics skills by segmenting and blending their letters to create a rich language environment within their classrooms.
We've had many opportunities to explore quality texts and show our comprehension.
The Stage One classes have been exploring the wonderful world of maths!
We've been enjoying hands on investigations to explore how to measure length, time and capacity. One of our favourite things is to order numbers.
We use integrated units to reflect on how our world functions and changes as we interact with it. We are learning to be curious investigators who take responsibility for the world around us.
Each term we focus on a different topic to develop our understanding of the world around us. This year our Integrated Units have focused on:
Term 1: Paddock to Plate
Term 2: Shipwrecks
Here is some of the wonderful learning we have done so far:
Students discovered where food and fibre products come from. We investigated the process of harvesting materials and turning these into things we use everyday. We discovered how honey, milk, butter and bread are made.
Students in the Echidnas planted sunflower seeds in the school garden.
We had a very exciting visit to Calmsley Hill City Farm. The students were able to see a variety of farm animals up close and personal. We listened to a farmer explain how to milk a cow and we watched dogs herd a flock of sheep. Overall it was a very fun way to finish our first Integrated Unit!
Students discovered how ships turn into shipwrecks. We learnt about why people used boats for transport and what happened to the boats that did not reach their destinations. Students were challenged to design and test their own to see if they could create a boat that would survive its journey over perilous seas.
Students eagerly explored the local shipwrecks of Homebush Bay. It was fantastic to walk through the mangroves and investigate the shipwrecks up close!
This year we have been learning about the importance of keeping ourselves safe and healthy!
In Term 1, we participated in weekly cricket lessons. We developed our throwing and catching skills.
Stage One students have enjoyed many wonderful music lessons with Mrs Parks this year.
Students have made ta and ta-te rhythms with popsticks; practised drumming rhythms in pairs; and worked collaboratively to create small compositions using Chrome Music Lab, Kandinsky app.
We loved when Ms Teale would visit our classrooms and share beautiful artworks with us. We were able to experiment with colours, lines and patterns to create our masterpieces.
The Goannas and the Sharks have loved using their learning to help them cook many fun things at school!
The students have used their knowledge of procedures to follow different recipes. They have discovered that measuring ingredients is a fun way to use mathematics in real life!

Online learning can be a big challenge and we are very proud of how the Stage One students have worked so hard this term!
