For Education Week in 2021, our theme is ‘Lifelong Learners’ and celebrates education as a lifelong journey from before a child enters an early childhood setting, progressing to primary and secondary school, and continuing their learning journey into adulthood; learning a trade, entering tertiary education, or the workforce.
Continuous learning is critical for success throughout life and everyone can be a lifelong learner.
Here are some special moments from the Early Stage One classes:
Wow! What a journey it has been to see our wonderful kindy students grow and flourish in their first year of school!
We are so proud of what curious, resilliant, creative learners they have become and we are constantly impressed with the way they challenge themselves to be active learners daily.
Students in kindy develop skills to read independently through daily guided reading activities. They are building skills to decode words and to read with fluency.
In kindy we love to develop our comprehension skills and vocabulary through rich quality texts.
We have been learning to write recounts in kindy. We show we are active learners by using learning intentions and success criteria to check our work.
Students in kindy are explicitly taught phonics using a systematic approach. We are learning to produce different phonemes and can match phonemes to graphemes. We play games and complete word work activities every day to reinforce our learning. Students then utilise this knowledge to read and write daily!
Students in kindy have been busy building their number sense to 20 and beyond! We love to have maths groups and to engage in lots of hands on learning during maths lessons!
Building playgrounds for our integrated unit in Term 2.
We used a range of media to create a variety of artworks including alpacas using oil pastels and stick people using pipe cleaners and fabric!
Students in kindy have been busy building fundamental movement skills in sport lessons this year.
We have been practising throwing and catching.
As lifelong learners we see the value in our social-emotional learning too! We are developing skills our skills for learning and skills in resilience, empathy and assertiveness.

We experience excursions to extend our knowledge and grow our understanding of learning that happens in the classroom. Here we are at Calmsley Hill city farm learning where our produce comes from.
Our kindy students have shown amazing resilience as we have taken our learning online through the COVID-19 lockdown. Each day students greet their teachers on Zoom and complete activities on Seesaw. They continue to demonstrate their eagerness to learn as shown through their outstanding effort in all online learning tasks. We are so proud of our kindys!
Students in kindy celebrated a big milestone during online learning.
100 days of learning at school!
We made crown and celebrated with a virtual party on Zoom.
