TWPS Our play based learning journey so far 2021.mp4

A new beginning for our little learners

The Research & Key Principles

- Smooth transition to school

- Interest based and meaningful learning environment

- Clear link to literacy and numeracy outcomes

- Authentic opportunities to learn social skills, conflict resolution, problem solving and decision making (At TWPS we link it to our social skills program YCDI)

- Student enjoyment of school

- Personalised learning

- Culturally diverse learning experiences

Key Principles

- Investigative play-based experiences are the major pedagogical tool for teaching and learning alongside formal instruction

- The nature of experiences promotes creativity, imagination and scope for children to invent and create

Formal skill instruction sessions and small and large group learning times are used within the classroom in literacy and numeracy. These skills are integrated within a range of learning experiences.

Environment Set up

At Thornleigh West Public School, we pride ourselves on the very special and inviting learning spaces created in our Kindergarten Classrooms.

The environment is extremely important, it should stimulate and scaffold children during their learning at investigation times. As a team we plan for investigations together and setting up is completed by the teacher and students together.
