If you have ever found yourself overwhelmed by the confusing network of technology used at LLV, you would certainly not be alone. Countless parents, students and teachers have struggled to get their head around the various different platforms that have come and gone over the last few years. That’s why we have written a definitive guide outlining technology at LLV. If you are reading online, hyperlinks to these websites can be found by clicking on the Heading of each section.

LLV’s Main Website:

The School’s main website is your port of call for just about everything LLV. It has a whole range of useful and important information about the school. If you want to find out more about our Village’s influences and education model, learn about the terminology used at LLV, find out about upcoming events, or fill out forms/make payments then you can do it on LLV's website.

FOTV’s Website:

The FOTV (Friends of the Village) are LLV’s Parents & Citizens (P&C) Association. They plan fundraisers and community events, and have an important role in co-developing the school with teachers and students. Their website includes more information on their work and also serves as a portal to LLV’s Multiform Shop.

The Students’ Scope (This Website):

The Students’ Scope is a fortnightly E-newsletter created by the League of Learners (LOL). The LOL are a collective of students who are passionate about sharing our school’s student voices with the village community and beyond. The Students’ Scope also publishes information on upcoming events and activities that will take place at our school. Some of which will be planned by the LOL student body.

Canvas:

Canvas is the cornerstone of almost all work at LLV. It serves as a detailed insight into your child’s(rens’) learning and It is organised into several subject-based “courses”. Assessment tasks and classwork are both submitted and marked through this platform. Please note that some aspects of Canvas are quite hard to understand without a lot of prior knowledge so consider asking your child(ren) to help you navigate it. Alternatively, you can follow this link to download the Canvas Parent Manual.

Sentral:

Sentral is an online platform used for logistics and timetabling. It is used by the school as a way of sharing information between parents, students and teachers. Class roles are connected to Sentral’s system and you can use the parent portal to notify the school of any upcoming absence(s). You can also use Sentral to access your

child’s(rens’) profile which includes information on Timetables, Activities and Attendance.

Octopus:

Once completed, Octopus will be used as a reporting platform used to replace the traditional twice-yearly school report. It will compliment Canvas’s marking and feedback functions by providing a constantly evolving school report that updates in realtime. Progress will be tracked against the NSW Syllabus Outcomes and marks will be displayed as visual representations. Octopus is not currently in use but is expected to be rolled out sometime in 2022. If you wish to find out more, please consider asking your child(ren)'s pod teacher during Term 3's Student Led Conferences.

LLV Student Futures Website:

The Student Futures site was created by our Futures Advisor (Careers Advis.... Never mind) Matt. It has many important and useful resources and information to help students understand the world beyond school. These include job pathways and post-school study options to name just some. LLV students are encouraged to think about careers from early on, and the school is actively involved in making sure that every student gets the best chance they can outside our walls.

Stileapp:

Stileapp is an online-based platform designed to fit with the NSW science curriculum. It is used by stages 4, 5 (and 6?) in many science lessons and has a wide range of lessons and activities to complete. Stile is based on critical thinking skills and enquiry based learning and also features several practical experiments using a number of scaffolded processes.

Mathspace:

Mathspace is another online platform designed for the NSW curriculum. It is central to the maths program at LLV and is designed to allow students to work at their own pace through whichever part of the curriculum they are up to .

It works by giving students a digital textbook entry and then assigning an adaptive set of questions that vary in difficulty depending on correct answers.

Maths groups are designed to be completely adaptable and students can work at any level at any time. Students at similar points throughout the textbook are generally grouped together and sometimes complete a subtopic together in a teacher-led masterclass (lesson).

Congratulations on making it to the end of this guide on the multitude of technology used at LLV. As promised, we have tried to provide a bit about everything. We hope that this article it has answered some of your questions and worries and that we haven’t created too many more.
