Imagine that you can build your world in a way that’s better for everyone. The World We Can Build is an inspirational story written by Eliza Hull and Sally Rippin, and illustrated by Daniel Gray-Barnett. Eliza Hull, like in the story, has a disability, and sometimes has to use a wheelchair. Come and learn more about how we can build our world!
The World We Can Build is about two friends, one with a disability, and they want to have a playdate. They soon realise that the world isn’t accessible to everyone, and instead of waiting for others to change that, they decided to do it themselves.
Eliza Hull was born on the 2nd of April 1985 and she had a disability when she was in school and sometimes had to go to a whole different class from everyone just because she couldn’t go up the stairs. She is a musician, writer and disability advocate. She has Charcot-Marie-Tooth, which causes nerve damage, usually in the arms and legs.
This book is made for children aged 2-6, but it is a good book for all ages. It has a meaningful message, and inspires and creates a good mindset of making a stand. Sally Rippin and Eliza Hull have created an amazing book that motivates and influences courage and being an upstander.
We read the book to two kindergarten students and interviewed them to find out what they thought. ”I noticed that Carla had a wheelchair,“ said Emma from Ladybugs class. “I liked when they went to the park,“ said Olivia from Ladybugs class. We also asked them who they would recommend this book to. “My mum,” said Emma, and Olivia said “My sister”.
In conclusion, The World We Can Build is an awesome book, written by some first rate authors and illustrators: Sally Rippin and Eliza Hull & Daniel Gray-Barnett. Get it at your local bookstore or library. Check it out NOW! 😜
