Sustainable transport

Sustainability action process

Transporting people and goods is an essential part of our lives. Transport can have an impact on climate change and the environment through emissions, use of fossil fuels and traffic congestion.

Increased understanding, new technology and better infrastructure can change people’s transport related behaviours and reduce the environmental impact of transport.

We can all be select more sustainable options.

Three high school students wearing back-packs walk out of a school building.
Walking or riding to and from school are the most sustainable transport options.

Sustainability action process

The sustainability action process provides a scaffold for teachers and students to investigate real issues and needs. It supports authentic problem solving through active student participation.

The sustainability action process has five steps:

  • make the case for change
  • explore options for action
  • develop the proposal for action
  • implement the proposal for action
  • reflect and evaluate.
