Bateau Bay sewage treatment plant was built in the late 1960s when at the time there was very little nearby development. Treated sewage is discharged into the sea off Bateau Bay at Wonga Point.
A sewage outfall in the middle of the rock platform is licensed to release a maximum of 36,000 kL / day of liquids or solids discharged to the sea at the edge of the rock platform (Central Coast Council, EPL License 1942 – as at 9 Nov 2017).
