Astronomers use the distance that light travels in a unit of time and as a unit of distance.
Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. All forms of electromagnetic radiation, radio waves, light rays, UV rays and so on, travel at the same speed: approximately 300,000 km/s (1 million times faster than a jumbo jet).
