During these lessons students will explore circuit diagrams, series and parallel circuits, Ohm’s Law, planning and conducting an experiment using an online simulation and creating a discussion on the use of non-renewable resources.
Learning Intentions:
To know how to create circuit diagrams for series and parallel circuits.
To understand the relationship between voltage, current and resistance.
To be able to follow a procedure, create a graph and analyse data.
To be able to write a researched discussion on the use of non-renewable resources.

I have drawn circuit diagrams with the correct components.

Students will learn about and draw basic circuit diagrams. They will explore series and parallel circuits and they will research and present information on the electricity consumption of common household appliances.
Learning Intentions:
To know what is required for an electrical circuit and know how to draw simple circuit diagrams.
To understand the differences and applications of circuits in series and in parallel.
To be able to analyse information to construct a circuit diagram.
To be able to investigate and communicate information on the energy use of common household appliances.
Success Criteria:
I can use my comprehension skills to extract information for the construction of circuit diagrams.
I have successfully demonstrated my understanding of the differences between circuits set up in series and those set up in parallel.
I can analyse and communicate information, in a table, on the energy or power use of common household appliances.
Content:
PW3 Scientific understanding of current electricity has resulted in technological developments designed to improve the efficiency in generation and use of electricity.
PW3c Students compare the characteristics and applications of series and parallel electrical circuits.
WS7.1b Students process data and information by selecting and using a variety of methods to organise data and information including diagrams, tables, models, spreadsheets and databases.
Students will explore the Ohm’s Law relationships through graphing and analysis of data and they will use a circuit simulation to collect data that confirms Ohm’s Law.

To be able to apply my understanding of Ohm’s Law to primary and secondary data.
To be able to conduct a scientific investigation, using a Physics simulation, where all variables are identified.

Students will research and communicate information on the types of lights used in houses and then design a house light plan. They will research energy efficiency in houses and look at data from daily solar power use. They will write a discussion looking at the use of non-renewable resources to generate electricity.

To understand that the needs of society influences scientific research on energy efficiency.
To be able to discuss the viewpoints and choices that need to made when considering the use of non-renewable energy resources.

I can use my research, problem solving and communication skills to develop and explain a household lighting plan.
I have successfully analysed data from solar panel electricity generation and household electricity use.
I can use a scaffold to communicate a discussion on the use of non-renewable energy sources.
