During these lessons’ students will explore the science of biotechnologies, including practices that are ancient, for example bread making and selective breeding, and those that are more modern, for example genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and cloning.
Learning Intentions:
To know about the types of biotechnologies and know how society have used them over thousands of years.
To understand the advantages and disadvantages of using biotechnologies, especially when ethical and social considerations are made.
To be able to conduct research to analyse information on biotechnologies and to then effectively communicate that information.
Success Criteria:
I can use my research and comprehension skills to demonstrate an understanding about the types of biotechnologies that have been used by society.
I have successfully analysed and communicated my understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of using biotechnology.

To be able to use research, investigative and analysis skills to explore cloning information and then able to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the use and applications of cloning, including social and ethical considerations.
Success Criteria:
I can use my research, analysis and communication skills to identify types of cloning techniques and then create a flowchart of a cloning technique.
I have successfully engaged with information on cloning so that I can complete a six Thinking Hat analysis.
I can explore the biotechnology therapeutic cloning and compare my opinion on it with another person.
