Overview

During these lessons students will learn how to solve problems involving duration and international time zones. 

Students will:   

• use 24-hour time and AM and PM notation in real-life situations 

• perform calculations of time that involve mixed units, and interprets time zones.

• MA4-2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems

• MA4-15MG performs calculations of time that involve mixed units, and interprets time zones

Students will:   

• compare 12- and 24-hour time systems and convert between them 

• convert between different units of time.

• MA4-15MG performs calculations of time that involve mixed units, and interprets time zones

Students will:   

• add and subtract time using different strategies 

• round time calculations to the nearest hour or minute 

• solve a variety of problems involving duration.

• MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and symbols

• MA4-2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems

• MA4-15MG performs calculations of time that involve mixed units, and interprets time zones

Students will:   

• compare times in major cities of the world 

• calculate time differences between major cities in the world 

• solve problems involving international time 

• solve problems involving daylight savings time in Australia.

• MA4-2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems

• MA4-15MG performs calculations of time that involve mixed units, and interprets time zones
