Overview

This is the final sequence for the topic Interconnections of Trade.  

During these lessons, students will explore contemporary examples of trade routes and consequences of interruptions to the system through a case study of the Suez Canal crisis 2021. At the conclusion of the sequence, students will complete a summative assessment for the topic Interconnections of Trade. 

Learning intentions:   

• to understand the spatial patterns of global trade 

• to understand the impact of interruption to trade to global consumption 

• to identify different stakeholder perspectives to interconnections associated with trade. 

Success criteria:  

• students can apply all knowledge and understanding of interconnections of trade to evaluating the impact of global shipping to people, places and the economy.

In this lesson, students will use a case study of the Suez Canal crisis 2021 explore the history and purpose of the Suez Canal. They will explore the event and subsequent crisis that occurred early in 2021, considering perspectives of a range of stakeholders.

In this lesson, students will use the case study of Suez Canal crisis 2021 and other contemporary examples to explain the interconnection of interrupted global trade routes. They will analyse global trade routes and a range of cartoons to identify and describe the interconnection of global trade routes with production and consumption.

In this lesson, students will consolidate the information presented in Interconnections of Trade and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the topic through a summative writing task.
