Good day to you, Joseph Banks here.
When the ship first entered the bay we observed four canoes. In each of these was one man who held in his hand the long pole with which he struck fish venturing with his little canoe almost into the surf. These people seemed to be totally engaged in what they were doing as our ship passed quite close to them, and yet they scarcely lifted their eyes from their fishing.
What skills do you think the local Aboriginal people needed to catch fish while standing in a small bark canoe using a fishing spear?
How do you think they learnt these skills?
