Ah! Good day to you all. Arthur Philip here, governor of the colony of New South Wales. I am in charge of a fleet of 11 ships and over 400 crew and more than 700 convicts sent here to establish this new colony. We first looked at the Botany Bay site mentioned by James Cook, but found it unsuitable. We sailed to the next harbour north and found this place, what I consider to be one of the finest harbours anywhere in the world, and I should know, I've seen a few. The land has been claimed for England and my instructions are to establish good relations with the existing people here.
