Through this learning sequence, students will develop knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion for individuals and the community. Through a variety of practical and theory activities, they will develop skills and strategies to support inclusivity as an individual and also within the school and wider community.
By completing this sequence, students will investigate the following key questions.
How can I apply my skills to collaborate, communicate, solve problems and include others in physical activity?
What positive actions contribute to the health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity levels of the wider community?
Learning intentions
During these lessons, students will:
recognise factors that influence our attitudes and beliefs
participate in physical activity that elevates your heart rate for 20 minutes or more
determine intensity of exercise and suitability for other members of community
modify physical activity to allow fair play, safety and inclusive participation allows all participants to enjoy and succeed.

Identify ways to cultivate inclusion for all in your community.
Design a physical activity to elevate heart rate and be modifiable.
Make decisions to modify a physical activity to make it suitable for a specific group in the community.
Justify the modifications and explain how the activity is more inclusive and accessible for all.

During this lesson, students will explore factors that influence our attitudes and beliefs and consider ways to cultivate inclusion for all in your community.
An inclusive society is where everybody is equal and supported to participate in the community, regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, age, disability or other factors. An inclusive society can lead to better mental health, better social and academic outcomes for students and an increased acceptance of diversity.

PD4-3 investigates effective strategies to promote inclusivity, equality and respectful relationships
During this lesson, students will be participating in physical activity that elevates their heart rate for 20 minutes or more. They will also be asked to make a judgement on how hard they are working by using an exercise measurement scale called the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE).
Regular physical activity is an important part of a balanced lifestyle. Participating in activities that elevate heart rate to a huff and puff state for 20 minutes or more are a great way to train your aerobic system and keep you fit and physically and mentally healthy.

PD4-8 plans for and participates in activities that encourage health and a lifetime of physical activity
During this lesson, students will make decisions to modify the physical activity they participated in last lesson to include others in physical activity.
People coming together with a shared interest is a great way to promote a more inclusive and respectful society. Participating in physical activity is a way to bring people together. Making modifications to allow fair play, safety and inclusive participation allows all participants to enjoy and succeed.
