Properties of geometrical figures

Introduction

During these lessons’ students will learn to classify triangles and quadrilaterals as well as use the angle sum properties to find unknown angles.

Students will:   

• classify triangles according to their side and angle properties and describe quadrilaterals

• demonstrate that the angle sum of a triangle is 180° and use this to find the angle sum of a quadrilateral

• use the properties of special triangles and quadrilaterals to solve simple numerical problems with appropriate reasoning.

• MA4.2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems

• MA4-3WM recognises and explains mathematical relationships using reasoning

1. The properties of triangles

Students will:   

• classify triangles into different categories

• discover and use the sum of the angles in a triangle.
