Sleep quality is an important part of mental health and wellbeing in young adults. Research suggests that prioritising sleep quality could maximize mental health and wellbeing in young adults. We have seen an increase in screen time. Students will use data to determine the relationship between screen time, device use and its impact on sleep. Throughout the sequence student will determine the relationship between sleep, the brain and mental fitness to propose, implement and evaluate strategies and actions that can promote sleep to support mental health and wellbeing.
During these lessons’ students will:
learn about the importance of sleep and how much sleep the Australian sleep guidelines recommend
explore growth and sleep requirements and draw conclusions about why these change over the lifespan
explore the barriers to sleep
use data to determine relationship between screen time and device use and its impact on sleep
investigate the impact of screen use on the brain
evaluate strategies and actions that can promote sleep to support mental health and wellbeing.
Outcomes:
PD5-7 plans, implements and critiques strategies to promote health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity in their communities

They will investigate the scientific impact of screen use on the brain and its impact on sleep.
Outcomes:
PD5-7 plan, implements and critiques strategies to promote health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity in their communities
Is sleep a privilege? With the barriers to sleep and the increasing use of screens and devices, should we be placing greater emphasis on its worth? Students will explore simple ways to help you get to sleep and reflect on successful strategies that you have used.
