Plan for your presentation, take advantage of the "Pro Tips" offerred, and learn what to expect.
Everything you'll need on the day of Regionals will be HERE
Teams will present their project progress report to judges live via Google Meet
Meet Links will be posted the day before of Regionals...keep those secure!
Join the meeting ON TIME. Not early... ON TIME.
Use any tool available to your team to share your progress. Consider these ideas:
Share a slide deck or illustration from your screen (instead of trying to show a presentation board on camera... awkward)
PRO TIP - if using individual devices for each presenter, using headphones is a MUST to avoid feedback for Judges.
Teams will wait in the Meet lobby until admitted by the judges
Join ON TIME. Trying to join too early will disrupt the team presenting ahead of you.
Joined on time but still not admitted? Don't worry...judges just aren't ready. Wait 1-2 minutes and attempt to join again.
Judges will check that you're ready, then turn the mics/camera/screen over to your team
Share your project ideas with the judges. They won't guide you, but they will listen... and then ask questions once you're done.
Teams will have no more than 10 minutes with judges (time for connecting, progress report and taking questions from the judges)
Remember, this is a "progress update"...don't over plan an overly-elaborate presentation.
Presentations SHOULD NOT last the entire 10 minutes. Shoot for 5 - 7 minutes (this allows a cushion for connection time, presentation time, and question time at the end)
Use the 7 Guiding Questions in the Level 1 Rubric to help tell the story of your project idea
Judges are there to help and support. Level 1 is NOT about eliminating teams... in fact, at Level 1, your team isn't even "competing" against other projects.
Judges will give feedback that is specifc, meaningful, and kind.
Projects will be selected designated as: "On Track" or "Not Yet" or "Reboot".
"On Track" projects automatically move on to Level 2 and the STLP State Championship.
"Not Yet" projects will have the opportunity to address the feedback and submit a response, earning the right to move on to Level 2 at STLP State.
"Reboot" indicates the competition is over for the project this year, but teams should utilize judge feedback to rethink and reboot their ideas for next year
Teams that experience insurmountable technical troubles or cannot present as scheduled due to verifiable school issues will be rescheduled as part of the Second Chance event.
Anticipate technical challenges. It's that simple...but DO NOT PANIC!
Level 1 project progress reports are not a test of your technical troubleshooting ability
Focus on sharing your project ideas
Technical issues are not guaranteed, but should be expected. However, students are more skilled in using online learning tools than ever before.
If technical issues prove to be insurmountable for your team, another option will be devised for them to give their presentation at a later date/time/format
Judges will be prompted to work with you if technical issues arise. Likewise, judges will notice the different between a team that hasn't prepared and a team that gets knocked off course by technical issues. Issues will NOT impact your status or final score.
Prepare as best you can. Practice using a Google Meet set up by your STLP Coach well before your presentation day and time
Test how well your mic is picking up, lighting, etc. well before your presentation date/time
SPEAK UP. You think you're talking at the right level...you're probably not. Ask the judges if they can hear you ok.
Try to practice using the actual device you'll be sharing your progress report with. That way, you'll already know about granting permissions for camera and mics, where the charger is, etc.
