Each species included here is accompanied by at least one photograph, and therefore, identification should present no problem. However, the plumage of birds changes between seasons of the year. In such cases, the use of field guides and other online resources such as eBird (http://ebird.org) is highly recommended.

Red-billed Leiothrix (Leiothrix lutea)

Has red bill, yellow throat, orange shading on the breast, dark moustachial stripe, and forked tail is blackish at the tip. Olive-grey above and dirty white below. Has dull yellow lores and eye rings with crimson, orange, and black in wings. Female has yellow instead of crimson in wings and paler at throat and breast. Juveniles have black bills.

White-throated Fantail (Rhipidura albicollis)

Has dark fan-shaped tail with white tips, white supercilium, throat and short eye brows. Overall, it has a slaty-brown plumage. Juvenile is very much similar to adult but with a reduced white on face.

Yellow-bellied Fairy Fantail (Chelidorhynx hypoxanthus)

Has a brownish fan-shaped tail with white shafts at the tip and a bright yellow belly. Has black eye stripes with yellow supercilium and forehead.

Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja)

Has thin down-curved bill and a metallic green crown and tail. Male has deep crimson breast and neck sides with maroon back. Has yellow rump with olive-yellow belly. Female has olive plumage with yellow belly.

Blue-winged Minla (Actinodura cyanouroptera)

A beautiful bird with a dark cap and pale face and blue highlights on wings and tail. Has a long square-ended tail. The sides have a soft gray-brown. Sexes alike.

Pied Bushchat (Saxicola caprata)

Males are black with white rump, wing patch and lower belly. The bill and legs are black. Females are dark brown with a reddish-brown rump and underparts without any white on the wing.


Nepal Fulvetta (Alcippe nipalensis)

Has grey head, black brow stripe, and prominent pale eye-ring. Has olive-brown underparts with white chin.

Sand Lark (Alaudala raytal )

A short tailed lark with dull brownish grey with faintly streaked upperparts and clean white underparts. Has a weak crest, fine bill, and a distinctive black eye in pale face.


Indian White-eye (Zosterops palpebrosus )

A small bird with yellowish olive upperparts, a distinctive white eye ring, yellow throat and vent. The belly is whitish with greyish wash.


Brown Dipper Cinclus pallasii

Entirely chocolate-brown, short tail with slightly lighter coloured back and breast.



Blue-fronted Redstart Phoenicurus frontalis

Has orange breast and belly with bright blue supercilium and forehead and rufous rump. The tail, central tail feathers, and tail tip are blackish. Female is dark olive-brown and orange chestnut below.


Grey Bushchat (Saxicola ferreus)

Male is dark ashy-grey with a mixture of black above and white below. Has white supercilium with black face, wings, and black tail edged with white. Female is dark brown overall with rusty upper-tail coverts and outer tails. Has brown underparts but darker on breast.

Orange-bellied Leafbird (Chloropsis hardwickii)

Grass-green above and deep orange below. Has a long curved bill and a blue flight feathers. Male is blue and black face pattern while female is green all over.
