BIRDWATCHING

The art of cultivating patience

Welcome

Greetings! If you are new to my blog, welcome and thank you for visiting. I use this space as an experiment for my writing and photography, exclusively on Birds. As I spend more time watching Birds and learning new things from them, I feel happier and closer to nature. That is why one of the greatest joys in my life is to watch birds. I have always had an undying passion for birds since my childhood days.

book launch: A guide to the birds of Samtse

A Guide to the Birds of Samtse' could not have taken this fine shape if not for the consolidation of considerable efforts and ingenuity rendered to us by some incredibly kind individuals and groups. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

This edition comprises 371 bird species from which two species are recorded for the first time in the country, and five falls under the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) red list category of Near Threatened species, five under Vulnerable and one under the Endangered. It is hoped that this book adds a new dimension to the field birding experience in the region.

As we cohabit this world, we need birds far more than they need us. They are our superheroes!

Identifying birds

Identifying birds can sometimes be a very frustrating experience. However, your ability will improve over time. The most important thing to remember is to observe birds all the time. The more you watch birds at different times of day, every day of the year, the more familiar you will become with them.

Habitat

Birds are faithful to particular habitat which caters to all their needs of food, shelter and protection. Many bird species often migrate from one habitat to another as seasons change, following climates ideal for breeding and gathering foods.

Behaviour

Each bird species has its own sounds and body movements for courting, alerting danger, showing aggression, defending themselves and more. Birds use a wide range of vocalizations and body language to communicate with one another.

Diet

A bird's diet varies with its species. All bird species require a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals - much like humans. Common bird foods include: insects, seeds, nectar, fruits, grain, fish, reptiles, etc.

“Birds -clearly the heroes in this engaging volume -have so much to teach us about ourselves and our world.”

David Yarnold, President and CEO of the National Audbon Society
