Our laboratory was launched in 2017 as part of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Anthropology, one of the core labs of the Department of Integrated Biosciences, the University of Tokyo. The Laboratory of Evolutionary Anthropology is cohosted with Professor Shoji KAWAMURA.
Our laboratory is dedicated to elucidating the evolutionary history of biological diversity in modern humans through various research activities, including morphological measurements of human individuals, determination of DNA base sequences and chemical modifications, molecular biology experiments, and population genetic analyses. In particular, we are interested in investigating the genetic adaptations that ancient human populations underwent in response to various environmental conditions and their relationship to common diseases observed in modern society.
