Teacher Expectations:
Students will actively participate in class by completing and participating in all tasks, discussions, lessons, and activities (graded and non-graded)
Students attend class regularly, communicate with the teacher about scheduled absences, and obtain and complete make-up work.
Students come to class prepared and ready to work. This includes having all needed materials, homework and prep work completed, and limited requests to use class time for other needs. Cell phones and personal electronics will not be permitted.
Students will check grades and progress regularly and communicate with the teacher as concerns arise. English 12 is required for graduation and students at risk of failing should seek assistance early in the semester.
Students will follow classroom expectations set forth by the teacher. These expectations will include aspects such as: seating, eating/drinking, restroom needs, locker requests, illness, cleanliness, and general classroom behaviors.
Assignments: Assignments (in-class and homework) are assigned as a means to practice skills. We may go over assignments during the class period following; therefore, some late tasks may not be accepted.
Late/Missing Work: It is the student’s responsibility to initiate make-up missing work. This can be done prior to class starting or after school. If a student does not attempt the work or is absent for an assignment, he/she will receive an Incomplete/missing for that assignment. If not completed, the incomplete will be changed to a zero and no longer accepted for a grade.
Academic Honesty: Students at Edon Northwest High School are expected to take responsibility for their conduct in both their social and academic actions. Academic honesty requires that students turn in work that is their own and shows their best effort. Academic dishonesty would include cheating or plagiarism.
Definition of “Plagiarize”: to steal and pass off as one’s own (the ideas or words of another); use (a created production) without crediting the source; to commit literary theft; present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. (Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, 1986, p. 1728)
Plagiarism may include:
Lack of in-text documentation
Not using quotation marks for direct quotes
Paraphrasing and not giving credit
Utilizing internet resources, including AI, in a dishonest manner
Direct copying and submitting as the student’s own work
Cheating includes:
Homework/Projects/Miscellaneous assignments
Submitting work obtained or copied from another student or obtained from a teacher without permission
Allowing another student to copy or obtain work
Exams, Quizzes or Tests
Looking at another student’s test, answers or materials
Talking or exchanging materials during the test period, or after assessment has been given.
Using camera capabilities to photograph and/or quickly e-mail copies of tests, projects or homework assignments without authorization from the teacher
All forms of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment. Further consequences for cheating and plagiarism will vary depending on the severity and number of offenses.
