Communication Syllabus - - Fall 2023
Objectives:
Students will study, practice, and evaluate different verbal techniques for presenting information to different audiences.
Students will develop “soft skills” that correlate to effective communication and workplace success.
Students will improve presentation skills, develop strategies for speaking to groups, and effectively utilize visual aids to support speaking topics.
Graded Tasks:
Participation and completion of “soft skills” materials and activities
Communication, enthusiasm and attitude, teamwork, networking, problem solving and critical thinking, professional
Speeches and presentations given to class
Self- introduction, information, demonstrative, persuasion, research
Peer and self evaluations
Written essays and responses
Each week is worth 50 points. Attendance, effort, and personal development will be taken into consideration and have an impact on grading.
Teacher Expectations:
Students attend class regularly, communicate with teacher about scheduled absences, and obtain and complete make-up work.
Students come to classes prepared and ready to work. This includes having all needed materials, homework and prep work completed, and limited requests to use class time for other needs.
Students will appropriately use their own technology as well as technology provided by the school. Student’s personal devices should be put away during direct instruction and student work time unless permission is granted by teacher for use. No technology should be present during assessments. School provided technology should be well cared for and properly handled and put away each day.
