My name is Shirley Fortson and I am the 4th Grade ELAR/History teacher here at The Woodlands Classical Academy. Teaching is one of my passions. I love and adore children. It is my belief that they are a gift from God. They are our future and we must prepare them.
I have been married to my husband Lonnie for 24 years. We are the proud parents of 3 wonderful children: Tyler (22) who is a 2nd year student at Rochester Institute For Technology in New York, Landon (17) is an incoming senior and Kristi-Madison (15) who is a 2nd semester sophomore.
I received my bachelor degree from Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. For 20 years I help teach inner city kids at a neighborhood church. I also taught for 1 year at Magnolia Speech School as an assistant teacher for students with autism and hearing impairments.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading the bible, decorating, literature and poetry. My love of speech and dramatic arts led me to receive several awards in Choral Reading, Impromptu Speeches, and Dramatic Monologues. I also enjoy listening to praise and worship music, cycling, food testing and watching my favorite game shows. My favorite type of food is seafood and I love Cheese Puffs and Baskin Robbins’ chocolate ice cream. It has always been a dream of mine to visit Barcelona, Spain, China, Venezuela, Brazil, India and Africa to learn about the food and culture. I also have an Event Planning and Decorating business called Madison Teyla’s Custom Creations which allows me to create all sorts of things.
