Howdy! My name is Michael Blass and I teach Texas History (7th grade) and U.S. History (8th grade). This is my eighth year at The Woodlands Classical Academy campus. I also serve the Responsive Education district as a Master Teacher in History.
I am a native Houstonian and fifth generation Texan. I was educated in the Cy Fair schools. During that time I was active in band, journalism and Scouting where I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and minors in political science and music. While a student there, I was a member of several musical ensembles including the University Symphonic Band, Court Jesters basketball band and the nationally award winning marching band, the Goin’ Band From Raiderland. I was also designated a Collegiate All-American where I performed at the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan. As a classically trained musician I have also been blessed to perform at numerous venues around the world including Austria, Germany, Ireland, Washington D.C., and New York City where I performed in Carnegie Hall.
As a fifth generation Texan my love of history was instilled in me since the day I was born! After over 20 years working on staff with the Texas Tech Band program I returned to Houston. While working at Tech and advising students I noticed a deficit in their basic understanding of what I consider to be foundational for a contributing citizen in our republic. Having a successful private studio for Jr. and Sr. High students and working on staff at numerous summer camps while at Tech I decided to work with younger students in addressing this issue.
My goal is to open windows of discovery for your child with opportunities to explore and experience History. More importantly, I intend to grow their academic skills and joy of learning. While assisting in future academic endeavors and careers, I hope to contribute to their ability to be positive major contributors as citizens to our country.
