Overview

The Menu for a dashboard is where you manage global settings related to your dashboard.

The dashboard’s Menu is different from the container settings menu. The container settings menu includes settings for each individual container, like the font size for the container’s title and more.

The dashboard settings are the settings that impact the entire dashboard. They don’t relate to a specific container on the dashboard.

Dashboard settings panel

Once you’ve opened the dashboard’s Menu and selected ‘Settings’, the Settings panel becomes available.

IP Access

Limit viewership by making a dashboard only available to users on your account that have both the Dashboard user permission and are a member of the appropriate IP Group.

Once you’ve created an IP Group in Console, you can assign that group to a dashboard to give them access to viewing that dashboard. An IP Group is a group of users that have been assigned the Dashboard user permission that have access to viewing a specific dashboard.

So, the IP Access menu in the Settings panel of a dashboard is where you add or remove IP groups to the dashboard to make that dashboard accessible only viewable by certain groups. That way, only the IP groups you’ve added can access and view the dashboard.

Access Keys

Create access keys to make a dashboard viewable by any guest or user on your account, even if the user doesn’t have the Dashboard user permission. An access key is a sharable link for a specific dashboard.

You can make an access key never expire, which is common when using the URL to project the dashboard on a TV or external monitor. Or, you can make the access key have an expiration timeframe if needed.

In short, create an access key for your dashboards to be able to share a dashboard with anyone.

Dashboard collision

The Prevent Collision setting can be either enabled or disabled on your dashboard to make arranging containers around the dashboard faster and easier.

Prevent Collision - Disabled (Off)

When the Prevent Collision setting is unchecked, or disabled, you can arrange containers how you need and the system moves containers occupying the space you need for you.

This means that enabling this setting will make this happen: moving a container over a second container causes the second container to automatically shift to make space for the one being moved.

This allows you more freedom and options for arranging the containers in your dashboard by having the system move containers out of the way for you.

Prevent Collision - Enabled (On)

When the Prevent Collision setting is checked, or enabled, you are limited to how you can arrange containers around the dashboard.

When checked, you can only move a container into an empty space on the dashboard. If you attempt to drag the container on top of another container, the system won’t automatically move containers out of the way. Instead, the container you’re attempting to move will automatically be sent back to its original position because your target area is already occupied.

This is useful when you want to lock down the arrangement of your dashboard and have more control over where containers are moved.

In short, you will do more manual movements of containers when this feature is enabled so you can have more control over the dashboard’s layout.

Vertical compacting

Vertical Compacting allows you to auto arrange and resize all of your containers to create a more organized and neat display with one click. The system will determine how to best organize your containers.

This is useful when you don’t need to manually organize your containers in a specific order or configuration.

Below is an example of what you see when vertical compacting is enabled.
