Choose an activity below:
- Fundations Practice: Review all consonants and short vowel sounds.
- Use the alphabet chart and/or Alphabet Cards to review with your child.
- Review some beginning high frequency/Trick Words: Here are a few to practice reading and spelling:
a, the, is, his, as, has, was, are, be, he, she, me, we
- Read aloud to your child and they can talk, write and draw about the book.
- Blending: Putting together the sounds in words
Give your child the sounds within a word in pieces (h-a-t) and have them put those sounds together to tell you the word.
*This can be done anywhere - car, walking, bedtime
- Segmenting: Isolating the individual sounds in words
Give your child a word and have them give you the pieces (If you say the word nose - they should give you the sound in the word n-o-s). They can usually isolate the beginning and ending sounds, so drawing their attention to the middle sound is important right now. Start with consonant-vowel-consonant words (cat, sit, not, cup, set). *This can be done anywhere - car, walking, bedtime
